( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2019-10-29

Kiwi fruit from Jiading Industrial Zone hit the market in late autumn, bringing much cheaper yet palatable choices to the residents of Shanghai.

Zhang Peiyuan, a worker from the Chenyi kiwi cooperative, has been busy picking the ripe fruits in the orchard.

"My wife and I have been working here for five years. There are more than 2,000 kiwi trees in several varieties in the 30-mu (0.33 hectares) kiwi garden," Zhang said.

"Every year I go to Shaanxi and Zhejiang provinces and other places to learn the cultivation techniques. Right now, the kiwi yield per mu has reached 1,500 kilograms, with each mature kiwi weighing 100 grams."

The kiwi garden attracts many people looking to enjoy some fruit-picking fun.

"Even though it's a remote garden, my friend and I still come here to pick fruit because of their fresh and sweet taste," said a visitor surnamed Zhang.
