The event, part of this year's Nanxiang Xiaolongbao Cultural Exhibition, aims to promote the town's delicious food, beautiful setting and traditional customs through children’s eyes and paintings.

The young painters, selected from all over the city, tasted Nanxiang xiaolongbao, or Nanxiang steamed buns, which is a traditional local snack featuring thin bread, tender meat and juicy filling. Its preparation technique is quite exquisite, incorporating about 20 procedures. It was added to China's list of national intangible cultural heritage in 2014.

The kids then went with their parents to Nanxiang Old Street, Guyi Garden and other scenic spots to look for the best angles and scenery to paint.

Some 80 to 100 of the best paintings the children produced will then be selected and published as in a special album to promote Nanxiang around the country.

Nanxiang Old Street is a residential and commercial area, beautifully restored to resemble a typical neighborhood during the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and early Republic of China (1912-1949) periods. There are a string of corridors and pavilions along the river, with stone steles, inscribed tablets and couplets revealing the past glory of local celebrities and the town's long history.
