Jiading to get two new schools

Jiading district of Shanghai will have a new middle school and a new primary school that are affiliated to the city's Tongji University, according to a cooperative agreement it signed with the university on Dec 23.

This cooperation was in line with an educational strategy that encourages local governments to cooperate with top universities to improve regional education quality.

Ma Chunlei, Party chief of Jiading said at the signing ceremony that Tongji University has offered a strong support to the district's social and economic development. Ma also expected that this educational cooperation will help the district get better resources and create a better educational environment to eventually advance its further development.

Local officials said that the two new schools are public schools and are slated to go operational in September 2016. The middle school, with a planned floor area of 13,400 square meters will boast 24 classes, while the primary school, with a planned floor area of 15,000 square meters will set up 30 classes.

The officials added that the schools will be operated together by the university and local education authority. The government also vowed support to the schools with preferential policies.
