More volunteers contribute to blood-forming stem cells

Li Minglei, vice president of Shanghai’s Red Cross Society and Li Yuan, deputy executive of Jiading, launch the first Red Cross service center in Jiading’s Anting town, on May 7.

Shanghai’s Jiading district held a commemoration event for “World Red Cross” day on May 7, and more than 200 members of the Communist Youth League volunteered to donate blood-forming (hematopoietic) stem cells on the day.

According to the Red Cross Society, the activity focused on recruiting volunteer donors, and this time saliva collection was used instead of blood sampling, thereby largely reducing the sense of fear in volunteers.

Li Minglei, the vice president of Shanghai’s Red Cross Society and Li Yuan, the deputy executive of Jiading, attended the event, while at the same time, launching the first Red Cross service center in Jiading’s Anting town.

The newly established center is located at No. 948 Minfeng Road and covers a total area of 200 square meters. It will cover service functions such as information consulting, first aid training, charity donations, humanitarian aid, and rescue work.

Currently, more than 3,290 volunteers from Jiading district have registered at the hematopoietic stem cell management center.
