Shandong promotes self-driving tourism

East China's Shandong province has launched a campaign to promote the province's self-driving tourism to stimulate consumption and boost economic growth.

Self-driving trips have become an increasingly popular choice among domestic Chinese travelers after travel restrictions were relaxed amid the waning COVID-19 epidemic, according to a report released by short video platform Kuaishou and Chinese mapping service provider AutoNavi Software Co, also known as Gaode Map.

In order to boost self-driving tourism, many industries in Shandong such as petroleum, finance, automobile and transportation have launched preferential policies as well as hotels, restaurants and scenic spots, according to the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

A mobile service platform integrating gas stations, scenic spots, accommodation, dining and shopping for self-driving tours will also be launched in Shandong.

Scenic spots, hotels, homestays and the catering industry have been encouraged to offer discounts and sales promotion to attract more self-driving tourists.

A series of activities and livestreaming shows will take place in Shandong to lure more self-driving tourists from surrounding areas and promote the province's diverse and pleasant self-driving routes.
