JINAN-- The white-throated redstart, a bird species mainly inhabiting the western parts of China, has been spotted for the first time on Mount Tai in eastern province of Shandong, the Mount Tai scenic area management committee said.

White-throated restarts are mainly found in northwest China's Qinghai and Gansu provinces, as well as Yunnan Province and Tibet Autonomous Region in the southwest. The latest finding of the bird on Mount Tai made it the 326th recorded bird species in the area.

Living primarily in high mountain forests and plateaus, the redstarts usually migrate to middle and low-altitude areas in winter.

Mount Tai has forest coverage of 95.8 percent and is a natural treasure-house and home to a variety of species of animals and plants, and a major habitat for birds.

Many bird species that used to live in the southern areas of the country have settled on Mount Tai as its ecological environment continues to improve.
