The city of Jinjiang is a famous source of overseas Chinese, with people who began emigrating as far back as the Song and Yuan dynasties (960 - 1378 AD). More than 1.1 million overseas Chinese can trace their ancestry back to the city, and more than one million Taiwan people call Jinjiang their native place.
