Thangka Festival held in Tibet

People present Khada, a traditional ceremonial scarf common in Tibetan during the Thangka Festival at Tsurphu Monastery in Tibet autonomous region, May 21, 2013. The Thangka Festival was held on Tuesday, attracting many believers to the monastery to pray, get blessed and appreciate the big and vividly woven thangka. A thangka is a painting on silk with embroidery, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala of some sort. Tsurphu Monastery is the most important monastery of the Karma Kagyu lineage, which is probably the largest and certainly the most widely practiced lineage within the Kagyu school, one of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
