Ink paintingsWhat's on in Beijing

A retrospective show of ink paintings by veteran landscape painter Li Baofeng from Gansu province is being held at the National Art Museum of China.

On display are some 100 of Li's signature works depicting rural life in Northwest China.

Li, trained under such master painters as Xu Beihong and Jiang Zhaohe, has forged a realistic style in Chinese figure painting.

Ethnic cultures

A grand exhibition of Chinese ethnic cultures is on show at the Gallery of the Cultural Palace of Nationalities.

The five-part exhibition presents more than 500 cultural relics, musical instruments, costumes, photos, and selected paintings of the ethnic minorities.

Lectures and video shows will help visitors fully understand the richness and diversity of Chinese ethnic cultures.

Admission is free.

Wang Du's works

A solo show of Wang Du's works, entitled Top Secret: Flying Carpet ,is now on at the Hadrien de Montferrand Gallery.

Born in Wuhan, Hubei province in 1956, Wang Du moved to Paris in 1990 where he is now supported by the Laurent Godin gallery. His works have been widely presented in renowned museums such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Kunsthalle in Vienna and the Hayward Gallery in London. Wang's works explore man's place in a constantly evolving society.

Sounds of the pipa

Pipa artist Wu Yuxia will present a concert with the Orchestra of Chinese Instruments tomorrow, featuring some of the most famous pipa (four-stringed plucked instrument) pieces, such as On the Flowery Bank of a Spring Evening, Wash-and-Ink Southern Towns, and Thoughts on the Ancient Pass.

German composer Robert Zillitsch's pipa piece The Swan, written especially for the Orchestra of Chinese Instruments, will also be performed.

In Vogue

Vogue China is celebrating its five-year anniversary with an exhibition in Sanlitun Village. Fashion photos, published since the first issue of Vogue China, will trace the evolution of the country's fashion industry.

At the same time, fashionistas will also have the chance to see some personal photos of some of the world's top designers, including Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Derek Lam and Vera Wang.
