Sony Picture's heist film "Takers" grabbed the No. 1 spot at North American box offices over the weekend, overtaking psychological thriller "The Last Exorcism" in a turnabout from early studio estimates.

Final box office figures released on Monday showed "Takers" raking in $20.51 million, just edging out Lionsgate's "Last Exorcism," which had a haul of $20.36.

Sunday's estimates put "Last Exorcism" at $21.3 million, a slim $300,000 advantage over "Takers" with $21 million.

Elsewhere, the remaining top five stayed in the same position. Last week's No. 1, "The Expendables," slipped to No. 3 with $9.5 million, taking the total for the all-star mercenary action saga to $82 million after three weeks.

Julia Roberts' romantic travelogue "Eat Pray Love" fell one spot to No. 4 with $7 million in its third weekend, while Will Ferrell cop comedy "The Other Guys" was steady at No. 5 with $6.6 million. Their respective totals stand at $60.7 million and $99.3 million.

Lionsgate is a unit of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. Sony Pictures is part of Sony Corp.
