Jennifer Hudson gets serious for 'Winnie'

LOS ANGELES  - Jennifer Hudson, who scored a best supporting actress Oscar for 2006's "Dreamgirls," is tackling another ambitious part.

The singer/actress is currently before the cameras in South Africa filming "Winnie," playing Winnie Madikizela-Mandela opposite Terrence Howard's Nelson Mandela. Though Madikizela-Mandela fought for years to win her husband's release from prison, the couple divorced in 1996, which might be worth a reprise or two of Hudson's "Dreamgirls" anthem, "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going."

Darrell James Roodt is directing the South African-Canadian co-production.
