Various views of the world

Three artists from the United States - Trenton Doyle Hancock, Erick Swenson and Alison Elizabeth Taylor - are marking their debut exhibition, Young Americans, at the James Cohan Gallery Shanghai.

Hancock's works encompass a wide variety of art forms, including painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking and performing arts, and feature imaginary, absurdist characters.

Swenson draws inspiration for the mythical creatures in his sculptures from a childhood passion for animal models in the natural history museum.

Taylor reinvigorates the ancient craft of marquetry, or wood inlay, in her figurative works. Her creations explore the hidden stories of everyday lives.
