U2 will use the latest 3-D technology to bring a concert to cinemas across the globe.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Irish rock group filmed over 700 hours of footage during live dates in South America during their Vertigo tour in Spring this year.

Editing on the ambitious project is reportedly taking place in New York under the guidance of director Mark Pellington. He previously helmed movies Arlington Road and The Mothman Prophecies alongside award-winning music videos like Pearl Jam's 'Jeremy' and U2's 'One'.

The 3-D film is expected to be released in the latter half of 2007, with discussions underway with several film distributors.
