Johansson, critically acclaimed for her performance in "Girl with a Pearl Earring", takes the lead in "Mary Queen of Scots", which will chronicle the antagonistic relationship between Mary and Queen Elizabeth I of England.Movie trade journal The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday the budget for the movie would be 25 million dollars and that it would be based on a screenplay by British writer Jimmy McGovern.
Queen Mary was beheaded in 1587 for treason after being implicated in the so-called "Babington plot" to assassinate Elizabeth.
