The Little Place of Guo

Updated: 2008-08-07 10:03 Feature dish or menu: Nongtang yudu, Grilled Shrimp, XO jiang bao xian yu Guo Yao Xiao Ju (The Little Place of Guo) is more than an intimate dining experience-it's an art gallery. The decor will strike you as soon as you walk in: 200-year-old lamps hang from a latticed roof; traditional wood carvings collected by Manager Guo himself line a glass cabinet against a wall; and Qing dynasty furniture fills the compact room. Every single detail has been attended to, from the place settings, the silk tassels dangling from the oval archways and the ink artwork personally donated and painted by a Chinese poet. Even the tables have been given special attention, with hand painted Beijing Opera figurines and Gods inserted into the glass tabletop. If you've ever wanted a taste of what it's like to dine in a slice of opulent Chinese history then this is the place to be in, not surprising seeing as they specialise in Tan family cuisine, one of the favoured aristocratic cuisines. |
