As part of its debut in China, American Ballet Theater (ABT) will perform Don Quixote at the National Center for the Performing Arts, today and tomorrow.
Though the dance is based on Miguel de Cervantes' novel it focuses on love, while Don Quixote has just a comic-supporting role.
There will be two performances each day and for each one different dancers will take on the lead roles.
According to ABT some passionate ballet fans have bought tickets for each of the four performances because they expect them to be so different.
The four starring roles will be taken by Paloma Herrera, Angel Corella, Marcelo Gomes and Gillian Murphy.
Herrera has Spanish ancestry and shows this off by dancing with a red fan, that is typically used in flamenco.
Gillian Murphy ends her solo on an explosive note with 32 pirouettes, including four triple pirouettes.
ABT gave its first performances at the National Center on Thursday and Friday, when it performed ABT Contemporary Ballet Collection, which was greeted with praise and flowers.
