For the first time, bodies of a harmful snail have been found in a batch of imported rapeseed at a port in South China, authorities said.

Lots of bodies of Cochlicella Barbara were recently found in cargo at the port in Fangchenggang, in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said on Thursday on its website that the snail, found in a batch of 62,000 metric tons of rapeseed imported from Australia, poses serious threats to China's agriculture.

Bodies of Cernuella virgata, another snail type, was also found in the imported rapeseed, according to the website.

Cernuella virgata was listed in China's quarantine pest list for imported plants in 2012.
