Guangdong senior legislator under anti-graft investigation
Zhang Shuofu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, is under investigation for suspected serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, China's top anti-graft authorities announced on Thursday.
Zhang, also a member of the Party leadership group of the provincial legislature, is being investigated by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, according to an official statement.
Zhang, 61, a native of Hunan province, joined the CPC in 1984 and began his career in 1988.
He spent nearly 27 years working in Hunan, where he held several senior positions, including director of the provincial water resources department, mayor of Loudi, Party chief of Yongzhou and vice-governor of the province.
In April 2015, Zhang was transferred to Yunnan province, where he served as a member of the provincial Party committee's standing committee and secretary of the provincial commission for discipline inspection until December 2016.
He subsequently moved to Beijing, serving as a member of the municipal Party committee's standing committee and secretary of the municipal commission for discipline inspection.
In July 2018, Zhang was appointed a member of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee's standing committee and Party chief of Guangzhou, the provincial capital.
He later became vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress in 2022.
