Nicky Wu's baseball appearance canceled after posting National Day video
Taiwan actor Wu Chi-lung, also known as Nicky Wu, faced the cancellation of his scheduled appearance at a baseball game in Taiwan after posting a video of himself waving the Chinese national flag and sending National Day greetings. The video, posted on Douyin on Oct 1, shows Wu at Tian'anmen Square in Beijing, holding a national flag and expressing his greetings for National Day.
Wu, a well-known actor, singer, and producer on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, rose to fame as a member of the Taiwan boy band The Little Tigers in the late 1980s. On Oct 2, following the video's release, the Fubon Guardians baseball team in Taiwan announced that Wu's appearance as the ceremonial first-pitch guest on Sunday was canceled due to his "personal health condition".
Despite the cancellation, Wu posted another video on Sunday, the day he was originally set to appear, showing himself climbing the Badaling section of the Great Wall. He appeared relaxed and completed the entire route without using the cable car.
In response to a mainland netizen's comment on the video, suggesting that Wu should maintain his position if he wants to earn money in the mainland, Wu replied, "Even if I weren't making money, I would still hold this position."
Media reports indicate that Taiwan's "mainland affairs council" publicly named 19 Taiwan artists who expressed good wishes for National Day. The council stated that it would investigate and take further action if any statements or actions crossed certain red lines.
