6 dead, 4 injured in expressway accident in Huaihua
A traffic accident on the Shanghai-Kunming Expressway in Huaihua, Central China's Hunan province, early Thursday claimed six lives, injured four, and damaged four vehicles to varying degrees, Hunan expressway police reported.
According to the announcement, the crash occurred at around 2 am when a 57-year-old man surnamed Ren, driving a heavy semitrailer truck westbound, sideswiped a car and then collided with another ahead. Ren lost control of his vehicle, and the truck pushed a third car forward, resulting in a fire breaking out.
Ren has been detained on suspicion of fatigued driving. Investigations, treatment of the injured, and follow-up procedures are ongoing.
Expressway police urged drivers to rest adequately and drive safely amid heavy National Day holiday traffic, and to be careful with fatigue caused by long-distance driving and the slippery roads in rainy weather.
