China has activated a Level IV national emergency response, the lowest level in the country's four-tier disaster relief system, to flooding in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region caused by Typhoon Narra, the Ministry of Emergency Management said on Monday.

The ministry and the National Commission for Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief, said they had dispatched a working group to the disaster-hit areas to assess the situation and guide local authorities in verifying and evaluating damage, relocating affected residents and ensuring their basic needs are met.

The response was launched after Typhoon Narra, the 19th typhoon of the year, brought flooding that had a serious impact on the southern region of Guangxi.

The working group will also assist local authorities with disaster relief and resettlement efforts, according to the ministry.
