Building next-generation communication networks urged

An executive meeting of the State Council, China's Cabinet, presided over by Premier Li Qiang on Friday called for accelerating the development of next-generation communication networks.

The meeting stressed the need to seize opportunities arising from the latest wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation, pursue application-driven and moderately forward-looking development, and coordinate the construction of different types of networks, so as to strengthen China's competitiveness in the information and communications sector.

The meeting called for innovation-driven and intelligent development, wider adoption of next-generation smart devices, and the cultivation of high-value scenarios such as smart cities and intelligent manufacturing.

It also emphasized the need to protect critical network infrastructure and data security, and improve emergency communications capabilities.

Top legislator meets with Jordan's king

Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, met with King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein on Friday in Beijing.

Zhao said that China stands ready to work with Jordan, guided by the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, to carry forward the traditional friendship, enhance practical cooperation and promote the sustained, sound and stable growth of China-Jordan relations.

The NPC is willing to deepen friendly exchanges with the National Assembly of Jordan and make good use of platforms such as the seminar for parliamentarians from developing countries.

Highly commending China's important leadership in global governance, King Abdullah II said that Jordan is ready to work with China to deepen political mutual trust, step up cooperation and promote exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
