Nearly 10,000 Liuzhou residents move to fixed venues after twin 5.2M quakes

Liuzhou of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region is advancing concentrated resettlement work for the affected residents in hard-hit areas following two 5.2-magnitude earthquakes, the local government announced on Thursday morning.

The resettlement targets mainly include affected residents whose houses were severely damaged within a 2-kilometer radius of the epicenters of the two quakes and those outside the radius with heavily damaged homes, totaling about 3,750 households and 9,769 people, authorities said.

Outside the area with a seismic intensity of VI degrees, local authorities have coordinated hotels, college and technical school dormitories, and government-subsidized housing as resettlement resources.

As of 11:50 pm Wednesday, all affected residents within the 2-kilometer radius had been evacuated. A total of 5,388 people were relocated to fixed venues for concentrated resettlement, while the remainder stayed with relatives or made their own arrangements.

Affected residents who had previously settled in Luosifen town, Liuni community, and other locations have all been properly relocated.

The resettlement sites provide free accommodation and meals for one month and are fully equipped with basic facilities such as water, electricity, communications, and environmental disinfection supplies.

Medical clinics, police duty posts, and material distribution points have also been set up at the sites to effectively carry out public security control, medical care and epidemic prevention, psychological counseling, and resettlement area management.
