Shanghai, HK libraries launch reading programs on 24 solar terms

A reading initiative jointly hosted by Shanghai Children's Library and Hong Kong Central Library will be unveiled in Hong Kong on Friday.

A highlight of the event is a popular program developed in Shanghai that interprets the secrets of the 24 solar terms in child-friendly language.

Based on the program, Hong Kong Central Library planned a children-themed exhibition featuring exquisite illustrations and vivid texts. The exhibition aims to guide young readers in Hong Kong to understand the ancient wisdom of the 24 solar terms that has been passed down for thousands of years.

The activity features a program which introduces the shared history of Shanghai Children's Library and Hong Kong Central Library and recommends books from both libraries. The two libraries will embark on a conversation that transcends time and space, to deepen readers' understanding of each other's library development and children's cultural evolution in both cities. An exhibition of books specifically recommended by the heads of the two libraries will also be held.

On May 17, the Hong Kong Central Library will host a solar term-themed children story telling event, where a reading ambassador will lead children into the fairy tale world of solar terms and the unique charm of traditional culture.

During this year's Children's Day, the reading activity will take place at the Shanghai Children's Library.
