At a charging demonstration station in Jining, Shandong province, electric heavy-duty trucks were being powered up on Wednesday.

Luo Jiahui, a local truck driver said his electric truck which is equipped with a 400 kWh battery can be fully charged in less than an hour, ensuring timely delivery.

"The ride is quieter, making the driving experience much more comfortable. Most importantly, it produces zero emission," he said.

Across Shandong, more and more truck drivers are embracing the shift to green driving.

A conference focused on advancing charging and battery swapping for electric heavy-duty trucks and vessels took place in Jining on Wednesday. Attendees from government, business and research institutions explored pathways for developing the new energy sector and green transport, with a shared goal of accelerating infrastructure construction and cutting carbon emissions in the logistics industry.

In recent years, Shandong has been promoting electric heavy-duty trucks and vessels, while accelerating the construction of charging and battery-swapping facilities. The province now has over 20,000 electric heavy-duty trucks, a 190 percent year-on-year increase in 2025. Fifty battery-swapping stations for heavy-duty trucks have been built across the province.

Jining leads the way with 132 charging stations for heavy-duty trucks in service. It has built a new-energy vessel manufacturing base on inland waterways, and Shandong's first large-scale pure electric cargo fleet.
