Wu Lan, a former senior legislator in Hunan province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from public office, according to a release issued on Monday by China's top anti-graft authorities.

With the approval of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision conducted an investigation into Wu, the former vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, over suspected serious violations of discipline and law.

The investigation found that she had lost her ideals and convictions, betrayed her original aspiration and mission, engaged in political opportunism, and associated with political swindlers, the release said. She was also found to have accepted expensive clothing and high-end medical services provided by others free of charge and attended banquets that could affect the fair performance of her official duties, it said.

In addition, Wu was found to have sought benefits for others and accepted money and valuables in the selection and appointment of officials. The former senior lawmaker also used her position to seek benefits for others in business operations and project contracting and illegally accepted huge amounts of money and valuables.

Wu seriously violated multiple Party disciplines, constituted serious duty-related violations, and was suspected of the crime of taking bribes, the release said. In accordance with relevant Party disciplines and laws, she was expelled from the Party and removed from public office. Her suspected criminal case has been transferred to prosecutors for review and prosecution in accordance with the law, and the assets involved have been handed over as well.
