A localized avalanche occurred on Thursday at a ski resort in Burqin county of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, resulting in one person being buried under it and later found dead, local authorities said.

According to Burqin's emergency management bureau, the avalanche happened outside the designated ski trail area at the Jikepulin International Ski Resort at around 13:28. Local authorities immediately activated the emergency response mechanism and sent professional rescue teams to the scene.

Following a thorough search and rescue operation, one buried individual was located at 16:20 but showed no signs of life. Related follow-up work is currently underway.

The bureau has since organized safety inspections and risk assessments, urging visitors to adhere to safety guidelines and avoid entering closed or unauthorized areas.
