Realizing that the nation's victory was Taiwan people's only hope to free themselves from Japanese colonial rule and reunify with the motherland, more than 50,000 Taiwan compatriots traveled to the mainland to fight on the front lines during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).
