The Wuhan University Technology Transfer Center opened a branch in Sanya, Hainan province, on Monday in the coastal city's Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City.

At the inauguration ceremony, Sanya Vice-Mayor Fan Mu said the new branch represents an effort to deepen university-local cooperation and integrate technology with industry. He noted Wuhan University's research strengths in surveying, biology, and software engineering align with the science city's focus on deep-sea technology, seed development, and space information.

The Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City will provide funding, policy, and talent services to support the collaboration, he added.

The branch aims to leverage Wuhan University's research foundations and talent in space information, artificial intelligence, robotics, life sciences, and new materials, along with the university's nationwide technology transfer service network.

It will focus on the industrial sectors of marine technology, life sciences, advanced materials and intelligent manufacturing, and digital information to build itself into a comprehensive public service platform for pilot testing in technology transfer and the cultivation of innovation scenarios.

Zhou Wei, vice-president of Wuhan University, said the Sanya location combines the policy advantages of the Hainan Free Trade Port with the university's science and education resources. The branch will act as an innovation service platform by focusing on business incubation, technology finance, and international cooperation. Its goals include serving as an innovation engine for the region and a base for supporting entrepreneurship among university affiliates.

At its inauguration, the Sanya branch signed agreements with partners in technology transfer research, innovation cultivation, and sci-tech innovation funds.

The initiative is part of the Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City's broader plan to build a regional science and technology innovation center.
