161 nominations received for Hong Kong LegCo election
HONG KONG -- A total of 161 nomination forms for the 2025 Legislative Council (LegCo) General Election were received by returning officers at the close of the nomination period, the Registration and Electoral Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government announced on Thursday.
The nomination period ended at 5 pm local time on Thursday, covering submissions for the 10 geographical constituencies, 28 functional constituencies, and the Election Committee constituency.
According to the office, there were 51 nominations received for the geographical constituencies, 60 for the functional constituencies, and 50 for the Election Committee constituency.
The returning officers will determine the order of names of candidates for their respective constituencies to appear on ballot papers and the allocation of designated spots for the display of election advertisements by drawing lots on Nov 7.
The Candidate Eligibility Review Committee will, within 14 days after the close of nominations, publish in the gazette a notice of validly nominated candidates for each constituency.
Voting for the eighth LegCo General Election is scheduled for Dec 7, 2025.
