Peking University Law School denied on Thursday online rumors that its faculty member Yi Jiming has asked students to pay for the banquets he hosted.

The school also denied that Yi has engaged in malpractices in enrolling students, it said in a statement.

The school said it established an investigation team immediately upon seeing the series of accusations online.

After verifying with relevant people and looking into the evidence, the investigation found the accusations to be false rumors, it said.

According to the anonymous allegations posted on Sina Weibo recently, the teacher is accused of asking his students to pay more than 50,000 yuan ($7,000) in hosting two banquets for his guests. The posts also accused Yi of taking money from others for enrolling PhD candidates.

The school said it reserves the right to hold people who maliciously make up and disseminate false information accountable.

Yi, 57, has been a professor at the Peking University Law School since 2011. His main research field includes civil law, property intellectual law and jurisprudence.
