Delivery driver earns praise for intervening to protect teenager

However, behind his courage, Meng faces profound challenges. Hailing from Xiayi county in Shangqiu, Henan province, he is a father of two sons, both diagnosed with mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS), a rare and debilitating genetic disorder with symptoms such as joint stiffness, bone deformity, growth retardation and heart valve disease. His elder son underwent seven major surgeries, while resulting in permanent disability.

To seek better medical care, he and his wife brought their younger son to Beijing two years ago. The need for frequent hospital visits led Meng to become a delivery driver — a job offering the essential flexibility that traditional work couldn't provide.
