China sees surveyed urban unemployment rate fall for a second month

China has seen the surveyed unemployment rate in urban areas continuously fall in the past two months, with the rate dropping to 5.1 percent in April, a decline by 0.1 percentage point from March, according to the latest figures unveiled by the National Bureau of Statistics on Monday.

The NBS said the urban surveyed unemployment rate averaged about 5.2 percent in first four months, pulling even with that of the same period in the previous year. The number was 5.4 percent back in February while dropping to 5.2 percent in March.

Fu Linghui, spokesman of the NBS, said at a news conference in Beijing on Monday that the overall employment landscape remained stable, though experiencing seasonal fluctuations in January and February because of the Spring Festival break. The stability of the job market owes to the government's continuous high-quality supportive policies, economic growth and promising industries development.

He said, however, the structural imbalance of employment remains a problem, for example, mismatch of human resources.

"The youths face high pressure of landing jobs, while some sectors have problems of hiring suitable workers, especially skilled workers," he said, adding that the complicated world landscape has also brought uncertainty and pressure to the domestic job market.

"We will continue to channel greater efforts to stabilize the job market and promote full employment to better people's livelihood," he said.
