China expects over 2m daily cross-border passengers during Labor Day holiday

Ports across China will see an average of 2.15 million cross-border passenger trips every day during the upcoming Labor Day holiday, which starts on Thursday, the National Immigration Administration estimated on Monday.

The figure is 27 percent higher than the same period last year, the NIA said in a statement, adding that the first and last day of the holiday, will see a peak of cross-border trips.

Large international airports are expected to see a steady increase in cross-border passengers, and the number of cross-border trips will increase significantly for land ports neighboring the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

The NIA said it has requested border inspection departments across the country to strengthen monitoring of cross-border passenger flows and the operation of ports, and to issue information promptly to help the public plan their trips better.

It has also requested the departments to deploy enough police forces at ports to make sure Chinese citizens spend no more than 30 minutes in line before clearance and collaborate with other authorities to ensure efficient and smooth port clearance during the holiday.
