Chinese police solved 38,000 drug-related cases from January 2024 to January this year, with seizure of 28.1 metric tons of the drugs, the Ministry of Public Security said on Friday.

In 2024, police across the country cracked 151 cases involving materials used for making illicit drugs, seizing more than 1,400 tons of such materials, according to a statement released by the ministry.

Over the last year, the police also stepped up efforts to tackle the abuse of narcotics and psychotropic drugs, as well as new psychoactive substances, effectively curbing the spread of the abuse, it said.

In addition, as many as 46 new psychoactive substances and four narcotic and psychotropic drugs have already been added into the country's controlled drug list last year, it added.

The ministry also worked with the Office of China National Narcotics Control Commission and the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration to produce a guideline to crack down on the manufacturing and sales of electronic cigarettes containing illicit drugs.
