13 missing in construction site ground collapse
Thirteen workers from a construction site in Bao'an district, Shenzhen have been reported missing after a ground collapse incident occurred at around 11 pm on Wednesday, a statement from local emergency management authorities said on Thursday.
The incident took place at the section 5 construction site of the Shenzhen-Jiangmen Railway, located near Zhoushi Road, the statement said.
According to the emergency management bureau of Bao'an district, provincial and municipal leaders arrived at the scene to oversee the response efforts joined by personnel from government departments, the project developer and constructors who are engaged in search and rescue efforts. In addition, emergency services, traffic police and transportation departments have also been deployed to assist in rescue operations.
Authorities have evacuated nearby residents from the area and conducted temporary traffic controls on surrounding roadways.
Investigations into the cause of the collapse are currently underway, it said, adding that updated information will be released.
