Volunteer group receives honorary title

The Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee recently honored a volunteer group in Chengdu, Sichuan province, with the prestigious title of "Model of the Times", Xinhua News Agency reported on Thursday. The group, comprising CPC members from the State Grid Sichuan Electric Power Company, has been lauded for its exceptional service and unwavering dedication. Since its creation 22 years ago, the team has actively undertaken various tasks, ranging from routine power repairs to swift responses during major emergencies, including extreme weather events in Henan and Sichuan provinces in recent years. They have extended support to vulnerable elderly residents, conducted over 100,000 emergency power repairs and home visits, and fielded more than 150,000 calls for assistance. The title "Model of the Times" is granted to individuals or groups who embody values such as patriotism, dedication, integrity and kindness, reflecting traditional Chinese virtues.

Criminal proceedings begin for ex-VP of bank

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against Zhang Hongli, the former vice-president of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China who has been accused of taking bribes. Following the Supreme People's Procuratorate's designation, the Hangzhou Municipal People's Procuratorate in Zhejiang province recently filed charges against Zhang with the Intermediate People's Court of Hangzhou, according to an SPP statement released Thursday. The move to prosecute Zhang follows the conclusion of an investigation conducted by the National Commission of Supervision. Zhang has been charged by the procuratorate with abusing his position to secure benefits for others and accepting a substantial amount of bribes in the form of money and valuables in return.
