Judge stabbed to death in Henan
A female judge from Central China's Henan province was stabbed to death by a man, who was "dissatisfied" with her ruling, the Yancheng District People's Court in Luohe city announced in a statement on Monday.
Wang Jiajia, 37, deputy chief judge of the court's case filing division, was reportedly found injured at an elevator entrance of an underground parking lot in a residential area at around 6:30 pm on Wednesday. After receiving the information, police arrived at the scene and found her died of injuries on neck, according to the statement.
After reviewing the surveillance footage, the police identified the suspect as a 50-year-old man surnamed Dang, who was also a plaintiff in a traffic accident compensation case handled by Wang, it said.
In the early morning of Thursday, when the police went to Dang's home to capture him, they discovered him unconscious from taking poison.
They immediately shifted him to a hospital for medical treatment and he is currently in a stable condition, it said.
The case is under further investigation, it added.
More details released by the court in the statement showed that Dang was driving a two-wheeled electric bike and collided with a small van driven by a person surnamed Li on April 4, resulting in minor injuries to Dang's left ankle and left wrist. After an investigation made by the traffic police, Li was found guilty of the accident.
On July 4, Dang initiated a lawsuit against Li at the court, seeking more than 18,000 yuan ($2,507) in compensation because the two sides failed to reach an agreement on the issue, it said.
Based on evidence provided by Dang, the judge made a ruling on July 23, ordering an insurance company registered by Li to pay over 9,300 yuan to Dang, it said.
Dang was unsatisfied with the verdict, but he did not seek any legal help. Instead, he went to the Wang's home on Wednesday evening with a weapon, it added.
Wang who started her job in September 2011 became the deputy chief judge of the case filing department In late 2021, with focus on handling traffic accident compensation disputes since March 2022, according to the court.
It revealed that Wang handled 428 cases in 2023, and she had solved 271 lawsuits since the beginning of this year.
While expressing deep sorrow and profound regret for the tragic death of Wang, the court also said: "We strongly condemn and are greatly outraged by the act of harming judicial staff members. We'll continue to fulfill our duties and enforce laws to uphold the fairness and justice."
