Northeast China park sees growth in big cat population

The latest monitoring data from the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, which stretches across the provinces of Jilin and Heilongjiang, shows that the stable population of wild Siberian tigers living within the park has reached 70, and the population of wild Amur leopards is around 80.

Their range of activity exceeds 11,000 square kilometers, accounting for approximately 80 percent of the park, according to the park's management bureau.

"Over the past year, we have recorded at least 20 wild Siberian tiger cubs and 15 Amur leopard cubs," said Feng Limin, deputy director of the Northeast Tiger and Leopard Monitoring and Research Center of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. "We have observed the further expansion of the Siberian tiger and leopard populations' range of activity, especially in the eastern core area of the park."
