New project aims to make Hongqiao Airport an aviation hub

A project situated in the heart of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport's Terminal 1 broke ground on Monday, boasting an investment of 1.54 billion yuan ($214.59 million), according to the Shanghai Airport authority.
East to Hongqiao Airport's Terminal 1, the urban regeneration project will consist of five office buildings and commercial facilities. The project will take up a combined construction area of 64,000 square meters.
The project is one of the latest efforts of Shanghai in building a modern service regional headquarters for the aviation industry, as well as upgrading the Hongqiao International Business District, said the Shanghai Airport Authority.
Upon completion of the project by February 2026, Shanghai's capability of being an international aviation hub will get further enhanced.
