New deputy head of Hong Kong, Macao Affairs Office announced

Nong Rong, the former assistant minister of Foreign Affairs, has been appointed as deputy head of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, according to an announcement from the central government on Friday.
Nong, 56, became Chinese ambassador to Pakistan in 2020, after having spent a majority of his career in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
The official was named assistant minister of foreign affairs in January 2023, a post in which he mainly oversaw Asian affairs.
