Luoyang Museum breaks records with 2.5 million visitors in 2023

The youth's enthusiasm for museums has surged in recent years, with record numbers of visitors flocking to them. There has been a remarkable surge in public interest, as evidenced by the long queues and sold-out exhibitions, said Li Wenchu, a deputy to the Henan Provincial People's Congress.

Li, also director of the Luoyang Museum, emphasized the museum's creative approach to presenting traditional Chinese historical relics in modern expressions, using the language of youth to narrate historical stories. The museum received more than 2.5 million visitors in 2023.

In the past year, Luoyang Museum organized more activities and showcases, inviting people to explore national treasures and ancient culture and experience the charm of virtual and physical reality through digital technology.

One such showcase featured a bronze makeup mirror, demonstrating the ancient Chinese people's craftsmanship.

Bronze mirrors considered one of the most popular cosmetic tools among the beauties in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The crafting process for these mirrors required significant skill and time.

"We transformed it into a portable small mirror more suitable for modern times, and it has become one of our best-selling items," Li remarked.

The goal is to make cultural relics feel alive and bridge traditional culture with modern times to foster cultural confidence.
