SUFE hosts intl business simulation competition

The Shanghai University of Finance and Economics hosted the first international business simulation competition for international students in China from Nov 20 to 21.

Organized by the Shanghai Education International Exchange Association and the SUFE International Cultural Exchange School, the competition was also the first Cesim Elite event catering to the international student community in China.

Cesim is the world's leading provider of multilingual, multidisciplinary business simulation games. Cesim Elite, a global competition hosted by the Finland-headquartered company, is one of the most prestigious business simulation competitions in the world.

The competition uses the simulation platform provided by Cesim as a carrier, and allows participants to take on real international business decision-making simulation scenarios, combine theory with practice, and test and improve their decision-making logic, strategic thinking and practical effects.

Since entering China in 2008, Cesim Elite has been held in the country for 15 consecutive years. This year's event marks the first time the event is open to international students in China.

The event attracted 223 students from 56 countries and 17 universities, according to SUFE. Twenty teams from 15 colleges and universities made it past the preliminary rounds and into the finals.

After two days of competition, the team with the slogan "Sleeping on the floor today is to become a boss tomorrow" from SUFE won the championship. Another two teams from Beijing Jiaotong University and SUFE won the Best Teamwork Award and the Best Creativity Award respectively. Zhejiang University won the Best Institutional Organization accolade.

The first business university in the history of Chinese education, SUFE hopes to build an exchange and learning platform for international students in China by hosting this competition to help improve their professional skills, cross-cultural communication skills and teamwork spirit, said Yao Lingzhen, vice president of SUFE, at the opening ceremony.

Veijo Kyosti, global CEO of Cesim, said that the Cesim Elite event is of great significance in the current age of artificial intelligence as it promotes knowledge complementarity and helps cultivate interdisciplinary talents through diversified cooperation, thus enabling contestants to improve their all-round capabilities in the business field.
