On Sunday night, a fire broke out on a cable of the Hutuo River Bridge on Fuxing Street in Shijiazhuang, capital city of North China's Hebei province. The cable then collapsed onto the bridge, causing no injuries or vehicle damage, according to a statement by Shijiazhuang Transportation Investment Development Group Co on Monday.
The bridge resumed normal traffic at midnight on Monday.
Preliminary analysis suggested that the fire and subsequent deformation of the cable were caused by a short circuit in the lightning wire connector.
Further investigation is underway, and the damaged cable will be repaired as soon as possible, the statement said.
Enhanced inspections and maintenance will be conducted on the bridge to ensure safety, it added.
