Three officials have been suspended from their positions after local people filed complaint that farmland in a district of Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region has turned into a garbage dump, local authorities said on Thursday.

The district has organized a special team to remove the waste on Monday, which is expected to be completed in four days.

A joint investigation launched by the city found that the land in Xixia district was approved to be used for building a logistic industrial park in 2018, but as it is a lower-laying area, construction waste has been transported to the area.

However, due to lack of management, other waste has also been dumped at the area.

The Party secretary of the township where the land is located, and an official of Yinchuan natural resources law enforcement team and a police officer at the Xixia district public security bureau have been suspended.

Reports of them violating laws and regulations have been handed to disciplinary and law enforcement authorities.

The investigation team has also conducted sample checks of the soil and underground water in the area. Soil detection has not found any dangerous material and the result of the underground water check will be release to the public soon.
