China renews yellow alert for rainstorms

BEIJING -- China's National Meteorological Center on Wednesday continued to issue a yellow alert for rainstorms as heavy downpours are expected to lash some regions of the country.
From 8 am Wednesday to 8 am Thursday, heavy rain or rainstorms are forecast to hit parts of Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shaanxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou and Hunan, according to the meteorological center.
Some areas of the aforementioned regions may experience heavy downpours, with maximum hourly precipitation surpassing 60 millimeters, accompanied by strong convective weather conditions like thunderstorms and gales.
China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
