Soccer official placed under investigation
Senior Chinese soccer official and chairman of the Chinese Super League Liu Jun has been remanded by authorities for investigation, Chinese media reported on Tuesday.
The middle-level management team of the Chinese Football Association was briefed on the situation during a meeting on Tuesday. The three-month campaign to rectify officials' acts within CFA, previously expected to end by the end of August, will be extended for two more weeks, Beijing Youth Daily reported.
Liu is the latest soccer official to be put under investigation by anti-graft authorities, bringing the total number of officials and coaches being investigated to 14 since China began intensifying its efforts to fight corruption in soccer.
The country's crackdown on corruption in the soccer sector started when Li Tie, former head coach of the Chinese men's team, was placed under investigation in November last year.
