China activates Level-IV emergency response to flooding


BEIJING -- China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters activated a Level-IV emergency response to flooding in 10 provincial-level regions at 6 pm Friday.
The regions are: Shanxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou and Shaanxi.
From Friday, heavy rain will lash parts of these regions, with a relatively high risk of mountain torrents, geological disasters and floods in some small and medium-sized rivers in the affected areas, according to an analysis made by the headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management.
The departments urged efforts to closely monitor rain situations and properly carry out evacuations.
China has a four-tier flood-control emergency response system, with Level I being the most severe response.
