Veteran Cavani joins Boca on free transfer
Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani has joined Boca Juniors following the termination of his contract with La Liga side Valencia, the Argentine club announced on Saturday.
The 36-year-old has signed an 18-month contract, with Boca requesting additional time from the Argentine FA to register the forward for the Copa Libertadores round of 16, said local media.
"Happy to have you home," the Buenos Aires-based club wrote on X social media, formerly known as Twitter, along with a video welcoming the much-traveled player.
Cavani, who began his career with Uruguay's Danubio, moved to Europe in 2007 when he joined Palermo. After four seasons he switched to Napoli, where he scored 104 goals in 138 games and won the Coppa Italia.
In 2013, he signed for Paris Saint-Germain, where he played for seven years, becoming the club's all-time top scorer — a record he held until last season when French forward Kylian Mbappe surpassed him by scoring 212 goals in all competitions.

Rangers snare Scherzer in blockbuster trade
The Texas Rangers agreed to acquire three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer from the New York Mets on Saturday night, an all-in move for the surprise leaders in the AL West, a person with knowledge of the deal said.
The Rangers will be adding the 39-year-old Scherzer with another former Mets pitcher with Cy Young credentials, two-time winner Jacob deGrom, sidelined by Tommy John elbow surgery, possibly all the way through the end of next season.
According to multiple reports, the deal nets New York one of the top Texas prospects in infielder Luisangel Acuna, the younger brother of Atlanta star Ronald Acuna Jr.
As part of the deal, Scherzer agreed to opt in on the final year of his contract in 2024 at $43 million, according to reports that also said the Mets were paying about $35 million of the remaining $58 million on the right-hander's contract.

England bowling great Broad calls it quits
England bowler Stuart Broad will retire from cricket following the ongoing Ashes series.
The 37-year-old Broad made the shock announcement on Saturday at stumps on the third day of the fifth and final Test against Australia at the Oval in London.
Broad has taken 602 wickets in 167 Tests, making him the second most successful paceman in Test history behind teammate James Anderson, and fifth overall. Fittingly, Broad and Anderson were at the crease together as England took a huge lead over Australia.
"Tomorrow or Monday will be my last game of cricket," Broad told Sky Sports. "It's been a wonderful ride, a huge privilege to wear the Nottinghamshire and England badge as much as I have."
