Overseas Chinese support Bay Area development
The 2023 Overseas Chinese Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Conference will be held in Jiangmen, Guangdong province, from May 16 to 18.
Organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and the Guangdong provincial government, the event is meant to enhance services for Chinese people overseas and to support their important role in the development of the Bay Area, said Pang Guomei, director of the provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, at a news conference in Guangzhou on Wednesday.
About 700 people from 90 countries and regions — including more than 100 overseas Chinese youth — have been invited to attend the conference, which will include visits to Bay Area cities in Guangdong, she said. Some of them attended the recent 10th Conference for Friendship of Overseas Chinese Associations in Beijing.
Sub-conferences will be staged in 11 countries and regions. These will be accessible online.
Jiangmen is prominent hometown for many overseas Chinese, with more than 5.3 million of them claiming origin in the city.
